Banishing the Dark (Jenn Bennett)

Banishing the Dark - Jenn Bennett

Picking things up from we left off in book #3, Cady Bell is preparing herself from the final showdown. Versus her own mother, Enola. Enola has been determined to take possession of Cady's body, to gain power that she has been wishing for.

May I say that this book, the final one in the series, might just be Cady and Jupe's book? *lol*. Jupe, the motormouth that has been stealing scenes from the get go (sometimes his father, Lon, even pale in comparison) gets his own CHAPTERS. Yep, there are several chapters taken from Jupe's perspective (using 3rd person style). I think reading his thoughts, and his awkwardness when he meets the pretty girl, Leticia, is totally amusing.

Okay, back to Cady ... I enjoy her trip to 'the past' so-to-speak, as she and Lon tries to find out more about her past, most especially what happens when she is conceived. Cady is trying to find a way to reserve the spell and in doing so, she finds out more about her parents -- and even a brother who died before her time. The final showdown is a bit, well, anti-climax for me though. It seems like it ends way to soon.

... but I do love the epilogue :)

Oh, because Cady is determined to save her pregnancy a secret from her mother, she asks Lon to wipe her memory about it. Unfortunately, it goes too far, and she forgets about her time with Lon, that they're a couple. Because of that, I sort of miss the 'romance' here too. Because Lon needs to pretend that he and Cady is nothing but friends. They're still a team, but I like it better when they can acknowledge their love, you know?

All in all, I think this still a great series. I love it -- I will miss the characters. I'm not a fan of Ms. Bennett's other series (in fact I DNF'ed it) so I hope she will have another one that I can follow.
