SPOILERS AHEAD
So this is basically a Jack & Marie with Kevin as side-kick novel. No Victoria, no Alex, no Cindy -- though we still have Tiffany and Leese. Not a problem for me. I like Victoria, but I'm quite intrigued with Marie as a character. It's about time we have a werewolf in an equation, considering that Mr. Bullion already has a demonspawn, a vampire, a witch, and an immortal.
I really enjoy Marie -- I like that she's unapologetic about being a werewolf. She's done some killing and she's not looking for a cure. She embraced her wolf, even if the change is a pain. On certain level, I think she's a very good match for Jack.
I'm quite surprised with the turn of plot that involves Erica. I mean since she was present for two stories, I thought that she would be part of the gang. But nope, she breaks up with Jack and ends up murdered. Oh, well. Her murder case is a bit blah, though -- and feels too out of the left field. I guess I'm used to have murders in this series to be related to one of the characters. So I'm quite 'disappointed' that it isn't.
Story wise, I think this is the tightest of them all. I think Mr. Bullion has definitely writes better. I like how he introduces another set of threat, in form of werewolf hunters. I like how he writes his characters. And as the pages go, I go more deeply in love with Jack (he's just super awesome) and Kevin. It's so cute that even if Jack always says that he only cares for two people (Tiffany and Victoria), but Kevin is certainly has a special place in Jack's heart. Despite Jack's attitude (he always call Kevin "Glinda" haha), he helps Kevin with some relationship pointers and he even gives Kevin a JOB! Now, I call that "love" LOL. Kevin has also grown to have more confidence in his own power, even if he's rather clueless about what he's going to do in his life, professionally (until Jack gives him a job).
This is definitely a great series. I am looking forward to the next one and I truly hope that Marie will become a more permanent feature. Someone other than Victoria needs to keep up with Jack :)
PS: This is my favorite book-cover among all five books!!
