It is the last day of February (I'm on GMT + 7 time zone :p) -- I don't think I will be able to read another YA/NA book today so I consider my February personal reading challenge as finished.
To recap, February's theme was "Young Hearts Run Free" -- where I choose non MM Young Adult/New Adult book. No actual rules for this one except for it being novel/novella length. Since this genre was NOT a favorite of mine, I kinda went with friends reviews or based on popular books that seemed to gather a lot of positive reviews. I was able to read 8 books, most of them by authors I hadn't read before.
So was the challenge successful?
Partially.
After this challenge, I arrived to a couple of :
1) YA/NA is STILL not my genre. I'm not feeling that this challenge change my stance to it I have hits and misses even for the books everyone was raving about. I think I just don't feel that connection with particularly YA/NA theme. Gah, the angst! It could be very annoying for me. Plus, it's hard to feel excitement when I want to roll my eyes every time these young people declare their love to one another. I know that it happens in real life, that high school sweetheart is not just a concept. But I like my romance a little more towards adult phase.
2) I think Paranormal or Urban Fantasy YA/NA is a better subset of this genre for me to enjoy. Although, what's with the stereotype of love triangle?!? Again, cue me rolling eyes.
So I would still like to try paranormal/urban fantasy YA/NA (I still have few titles recommended to me that I haven't read this month) but in overall, I think I stick to adult books.
Here are the books I counted for the challenge:
1. The Fault in Our Stars (John Green): 3.5 stars
2. Cinder (Marissa Meyer): 4 stars
3. Scarlet (Marissa Meyer): 4 stars
4. Eleanor & Park (Rainbow Rowell): 2.5 stars
5. Prep School Confidential (Kara Taylor): 3.5 stars
6. Amy & Roger's Epic Detour (Morgan Matson): 4 stars
7. World After (Susan Ee): 4 stars
8. Hex Hall (Rachel Hawkins): 3 stars
So, what's March theme for my personal reading challenge?
Yes, Ami is reading MMM *gasp*
It IS a challenge, and I figure I need to tackle a theme that I usually avoid. For this challenge, I rope a friend who LOVE this theme and I know would help me with my adventure to a new territory. I already told her that I prefer pure MMM though, not having a sudden third person into the equation. But I also promise her that I will have an open mind before I jump in. The personal challenge starts March 1st.
So Mandy , here goes :)
