To Read is To Live

Unknown - Rachel Caine The second book in Outcast Season series finds Cassiel and (her potential love interest) Earth Warden Luis Rocha following trails of more missing children; children with amazing Warden powers that are trained by evil Pearl, to kill anything that stands her way. This time, they have the help from unlikely ally, a New Djinn, Rashid, and an FBI agent/Fire Warden, Ben Turner. Though soon, both Cassiel and Luis realize that trust is not something they can afford ...I swear, reading this book is like running for marathon. The action is steady throughout the chapters, with attacks on Cassiel and Luis coming from EVERY corner!! I still cannot believe the two of them still survive!! Of course, if one of them is dead, the series is probably finished, isn't it? *lol*. But seriously, the attacks are escalating in terms of its danger level, and sometimes I don't know whether Cassiel survives because of her own strength or she is jus lucky. In terms of character, I think Cassiel is a bad ass. Even limited to her human flesh, there are moments that make me admire so (one will involves her hand and a weapon, that is a BAD ASS moment!). She does not easily succumb to her Djinn side and I like her "transformation" from Djinn to start feeling her humanity. Luis, on the other hand, has not really shown me his full ability alone. It seems like he kicks ass only when Cassiel is around. The new character, Djinn Rashid, is not someone I easily trust, I'm worry he will end up hurting Cassiel more (if he appears in next books).Pearl is a horrible revengful evil villain. Her using children is the plot that keeps this story tight but at the same time heartbreaking. Because sometimes it's either killed and be killed and whatever happens, children are the victims. I wish the next books will somehow gives a hopeful light *sigh*I read this one pretty quick, simply because the plot flows nicely and serves so many actions I don't think I COULD stop. But now, maybe I'll take a breath first before book #3, maybe pick up another book in between? But of course sometimes, what I want does not end up to what I really do *lol*
