Wild Fragile Vines (Vivien Dean)

Wild Fragile Vines - Vivien Dean

Vivien Dean is one of my go-for-comfort authors. Sure, not all of her stories are hits, but most of the times they just click with me. Including this one. Yes, it is only 13,000 words (and you must admit that the publisher's price point is VERY EXPENSIVE even after I used the 25% discount ARe sale; so maybe think twice if you're leery about price/word count calculation), but it packs the punch out of me. Maybe because the idea of both men being pretty much apart for eighteen years before they were together.

The story was written in both flashback and present time (and I, as reader, was left guessing about what was currently going on), but there were enough clues about what had happened. Being 11-years-older, Tim rejected Devin's advance, and to honor the 'status quo', twenty-year old Devin left Napa to make his way towards the music industry. We had letters that Devin wrote (and they were wonderful), feelings that were still there (shown through interviews of Devin about his songs), and tidbits about significant moments in their life. Before that one final call that finally brought Tim and Devin together.

The gentle romance made me feel nostalgic and hopeful because the ending was worth it. Even if it took almost two decades to get there ... *hugs Tim and Devin*
