Three's Company (N.R. Walker)

Three's Company - N.R. Walker

3.5 stars

Mandy, my go-to-girl for this month's personal challenge of mine told me that she thought I would've liked this. She also said that it was light and cute.

Yep. I did like it

First thing, N.R. Walker's stories didn't always work (oh, I did DNF a few, I just didn't put those here) and her love of using "baby" as endearment (BLAH!) always made me do the deletion before reading hers (yes, there are "baby's" here too). But I also thought most of her stories to be low on angst and quite happy in nature. Since I just finished one that was quite subdued, I thought it would be good.

It was indeed light; yes, Wil came to Key West after experiencing a heartbreak since his closeted ex bailed on him (Wil was closeted too, but it was still hurting). He met the strong solid Simon and cheerful charming Adam -- and soon Wil became part of a three-way relationship. Not much of a conflict, everybody was happy, and not once I felt that one of them being left out.

If there was a conflict in the middle -- when the feeling developed -- it was not being dragged out. There was another external conflict about a homophobic developer, but since it was introduced around 84% and solved in around 94%, again, it was like fire quickly being put down. Then we had

the ex

coming and again, it was resolved in an instant.

Sooooo, it never really go beyond the surface. That was okay, though, it matches my expectation and I did enjoy it. That's what matters, right?

Having said that ... I read how some friends thought N.R. Walker tend to have a "telling not showing" style. I never really paid attention before, and I never really thought it was blatantly obvious. But I did notice it here somehow. Like in the beginning ... or even about their sex life. I did feel more telling than showing. So consider that a friendly advisory :)
