Ami's Hoard

To Read is To Live

Falling - M.L. Rhodes Christian Wetherly is a mage, the leader of Bureau of Dark Magic Affairs. When a powerful evil mage seems to surface to look for powerful amulet and murders happen across the Atlantic, Christian travels to U.S. undercover as a cop and temporarily works with Alec Anderson. The two of them find that they are attracted to one another. But Alec is an Ordinary, and Christian knows that telling his secret to an Ordinary does not usually ends well. Plus there's the threat from the evil mage ...This is only the third story I have ever read from M.L. Rhodes, and oh God, I'm in love with it. Christian and Alec are perfect "tortured" heroes for me. Christian has not completely coming out (due to strict Catholic father) and keeps secret of his sexuality from his friends and family. Alec's partner of three years died off duty and he is not truly think it's time to move on. But oh, the intensity of their chemistry! MAN, it is powerful stuff. Just enough angst and yearning for me to have my heart goes out for the two men. When they finally act on their chemistry, does not mean it's easy. Oh, no, Alec feels betrayed by Christian's white lie, of keeping a secret from him that he is magic. So there is a fight too before they get it together. After that, man, the sex is just scorching HOT!The mystery itself is not complicated. You will probably guess about the amulet and the heritage of Alec way before the final chapters. But, it doesn't matter, because I pretty much feel the journey with Alec, anyway. The only reason that I don't give more stars, is because PERSONALLY, the "I love you, I'm so in love with you" statement is a bit too much after they both first say it. It's personal preference, really. Still, it's a very good, engaging read.
