Scorpius Rising (Rebecca Zanetti)

On the Hunt - Alexandra Ivy, Rebecca Zanetti, Dianne Duvall, Hannah Jayne

Rating only applies for Scorpius Rising by Rebecca Zanetti

I read this novella because I have been approved to read the ARC of Mercury Striking from Netgalley. When I read the novel, I felt that there were references of events that happened off page. So when I found out that there was actually a prequel novella, I decided to read it first.

I really liked the idea -- a bacteria that came from a meteorite after the Scorpius Comet passed by Earth (hence named as the Scorpius bacteria), and ended up being a blown-out epidemic. I liked that the characters involved were scientists -- well, at least the heroine (she was a microbiologist) and her best friends (she was the head of CDC), the hero was a military man.

Yep, I liked the set-up, I really did. It also gave me a context I needed in order to start the novel later. Now that I knew what happened, what started it, and who were the major players.

What I didn't like was the lack of 'concern' once it was clear that Nora's assistant Zach had become crazy and wanting to infect so many people at short time. I mean, I would be terrified and out of my head with fear. Trying to deal with one crazy man who infected my best friends and then went on raping women and spit on foods in order to spread the disease.

In fact, I thought Deacan and Nora had more focus on their sex-life and rebuilding their relationship *hmph*. Too many sex on short time span, where the president of the United States had been bitten and possibly died? Really?

Yeah, not liking the romance but sure did feel intrigued with the world built.
