Red Runs Through (Cate Ashwood)

Red Runs Through (Piece Us Back Together) - Cate Ashwood

Well, I liked it. It was surprisingly angst-free given the fact that Matthew was HIV+ -- when I saw the blurb of this novella, I thought it would be slightly emotional. However, Carter's reaction towards Matthew's HIV status was very calm and rational, no feathers ruffled. Since Carter worked as a phlebotomist (he took blood samples for lab tests) he knew about it even before Matthew told him; plus he was quite well-informed about the ins and outs of the virus. So, there was no emotional trouble what-so-ever. Which was nice but at the same time, also toned down the impact on me as a reader. I guess I sort of expected for Carter at least to be, well, ruffled a little bit. Then again, he did work in a hospital, it fit with his character. I shouldn't complained about it, yeah?

It was pretty straight-forward read -- we did have a touch of conflicts coming from Matthew's ex and Carter's parents but it was dealt with in quite a quick manner. Bottom line it was a sweet little novella and probably good for when you want to read something light in between those 'heavy' stories.
