Archangel's Shadow (Nalini Singh)

Archangel's Shadows: Guild Hunter, Book 7 - Nalini Singh, Justine Eyre

4.5 stars

I feel like I have been waiting for Ashwini and Janvier's story forever. They have captured my attention since the first time there were even tidbit clues about their intriguing 'relationship'. A 'crazy' hunter and the vampire -- and they have had their foreplays for so long. And so far, I have only satisfied my self with that little novella of theirs, Angel's Pawn (and that was back in 2009!!!).

So imagine my EXCITEMENT (!!) when I found out the latest Guild Hunter NOVEL was about them!! I was dancing inside...

AND IT WAS SO GOOD!! Gah, I loved them so much. It was very clear from the start that when it came to pursuing a relationship, Janvier was the one ready to go ahead with it. There was no doubt in my mind about his feeling and dedication towards Ash. It was always Ashwini who held back. I didn't know whether it was because Ash was a Hunter and Janvier was a vampire or if there was something else entirely.

It was good to finally learn about 'the secret' that Ash held from Janvier. And it was also good to see the root of Ash's fear (oh, and I was also happy to know Ash's family). I knew that Janvier would not let her go without a fight. No way in hell. It was heartbreaking moment ...

“Don’t go with me, Janvier. Don’t make that choice when it happens for me.”

“No ... that you cannot ask of me... I won’t be me after you.”

*SIGH*

I was happy with the resolution of course. I knew it would go there but still it was really good when it reached there *hugs Cuddlebunny and his Ashblade*

My complaint for this book was tiny -- honestly, since this was ASHWINI and JANVIER's book, I wanted the spotlight to be shining on them. It kinda sucks that since the book is so far down the road, Ash and Janvier must share the stage with the others and other plot development -- like the whole aftermath from the previous book, Caliane visiting his son and daughter-in-law, even the whole 'update' with Raphael, Elena, Ransom, Dmitri, Honor, and others.

ALTHOUGH, considering how much I loved all these characters, it wasn't really a STRONG complain. How could I? It was wonderful getting updates about the others. Reading with amusement on how Elena having a bloc party and rattled because Caliane is visiting, or visiting her young guard, or Dmitri playing chess with Aodhan ... and of course, reading more about NAASIR!!! Seriously, this tiger-like vampire just shoot on a new height on my next 'intriguing' characters to know. He was there on top of my list after Bluebell.

The other tiny complaint would be about the climax. Considering the gory situation of the murders, it was a bit of a let down that Ash and Janvier took care of the villain in so short pages. I wanted a bit more of a fight.

In conclusion ... well, I was fricking' loving this. It feels like a good bridge to whatever big moment going to happen next.

PS: There was one tiny-you'll-blink-and-miss-it moment, where Nalini Singh was showing a nudge of male-male romantic moment (

She glanced at the doorway to see Keir exchanging an intimate look with a heavily muscled male warrior. The warrior angel’s hand was curved around the side of Keir’s neck, his head bent toward Keir’s shorter and more slender form. Whatever he said made the healer laugh before he slipped out of the warrior’s hold and into the infirmary...

(show spoiler)

) I always think that Nalini's urban fantasy world is so heterosexual and I will be happy if she adding a same-sex relationship in here. Of course I'm expecting Bluebell and his Sparkle, but heck, I take secondary characters too, in any way I can :)
